Can Recruitment Consultants Work from Home?

Working from home is the norm for many of us now. Triggered by the pandemic, WFH (work from home) life, is a change that many of us are seeing as a positive. It makes perfect sense with modern life busier than ever before and businesses looking to cut costs but is working from home here to stay? And is working as a Recruitment Consultant from home possible?

We have seen companies who, pre-pandemic, would never have allowed their staff to work from home. Now they are positively implementing hybrid working schedules, and some even choose to close their offices and have all staff working from home permanently. Companies including Airbnb, Dropbox and Hubspot are just a few companies which are now only working from home.

Benefits of working from home

Working from home just works. Here are just a few benefits that we find working from home provides.

  • Less travel time, therefore improving work-life balance and reducing childcare/pet-sitting costs.

  • Greater flexibility.

  • Better feeling of well-being.

  • Less financial outgoings - lunches, travel costs, professional clothes.

  • A broader range of job opportunities which are not location dependent.

  • Ability to customise your working environment - lighting, music, the temperature of a room.

  • Better focus.

  • More productive meetings using Microsoft Teams.

  • You can be comfortable! Live in leggings? Working from home is ideal for you

  • You can live anywhere without having to worry about commuting

  • Pets won’t be lonely! (very important to the AWR team)

Although working from home is not for everyone, depending on your profession and style of work, some prefer to be in the office full-time.

Cons of working from home

  • Longer working hours and fewer breaks. Managing your own schedule and not having others around you can often mean the time goes faster and lunch breaks are missed or worked through.

  • There can be distractions at home, and not everyone can create a space at home which enables them to focus fully.

  • Some might find working from home isolating and demotivating.

It really does knuckle down to what your characteristics are and what way you work best.. That is why the hybrid working model can work for many to break up the working week, allowing employees to work from home for a few days a week and be in the office for the rest.

At Amanda Wright Recruitment, we have implemented a hybrid working structure where our team work from home 3 days a week and come into the office for 2 days. Many of our team are busy mums, and this flexibility works especially well for them.

Are there many remote recruitment consultant roles available?

Over the past couple of years, we have been surprised to see so many recruitment jobs which are fully remote or at least hybrid. Working in recruitment requires a good relationship with candidates and clients, and although it is important to keep connected with colleagues, working as a recruitment agent is not a career which involves constant collaboration.

Mandi, our Director, says:

“We have seen a huge increase in WFH roles since the pandemic . The majority of our clients are swaying towards hybrid and WFH opportunities now.  I never thought that would be the case 10 years ago! America has been working this way for a  long while and it is refreshing to see so many of our UK clients are keeping up with the markets demands. Some locations are not easy to commute to and it’s definitely beneficial for parents too. Gone are the days of missing out on that opportunity that might be absolutely perfect but travel and location are a hindrance.  The UK market has definitely realised it makes complete sense. We offer WFH ourselves. If one of our team can travel to the office 2 or 3 days a week and work from home the rest of the time or work from home completely remotely, as long as they get the job done it works!!. It is interesting to see that there are so many businesses that have opened their minds to this way of working.”

Who knows what the future will hold and what changes we will see over the next 10 years, but for now, we are enjoying seeing candidates get jobs that not only work for them but work for our clients too. To view our remote opportunities, visit and select ‘remote’ within the locations filter.
