Are you ready for the September recruitment rush?

Recent statistics released by job-search website CV-Library suggest that Britain is facing a boom when it comes to job vacancies. Up and down the country, more and more positions are being made available, meaning more and more positions will need to be filled. This can only be fantastic news for budding job candidates.

The United Kingdom as a whole saw an impressive 10.7% rise in publicised vacancies over the last twelve months. When broken down into key cities, it becomes apparent as to just how impressive these increases are:

Bristol + 45.3%
Sheffield + 42.5%
Glasgow + 37.8%
Leeds + 34.4%
Manchester + 33.2%
Cardiff + 30.3%
Southampton + 28.6%
Birmingham + 27.3%
Edinburgh + 27.1%
Liverpool + 19.2%

These figures are an encouraging sign, indicating positive growth despite a year of political uncertainty. Some sectors have particular reasons to be cheerful - the social care sector saw a boost of almost 27% in advertised vacancies, manufacturing saw an increase just short of 25% and accounting and finance received a 17% rise.

Not only are more jobs being made available but it appears candidates are increasingly keen to apply for jobs. Statistics from the same study indicate that applicant enthusiasm is increasing and given the increased number of jobs being made available, employers will have to fight harder to obtain the strongest candidates.

September has always been an important month in the world of recruitment. Businesses begin to gear up for Christmas, post-graduates enter the job market and employers and employees alike return from their summer holidays refreshed and with new ideas for the future. This year it appears more important than ever.

CV-Library Managing Director, Lee Biggins, highlighted how: “We expect to see these numbers continue to grow throughout September, which means now is the perfect time to be looking for your next hire. Just be sure to do all you can to stand out from your competitors, especially in terms of writing an enticing job advert that’s going to attract the most talented and eager candidates to your vacancies!”

Such encouraging developments can only be good news for the recruitment sector. With increasing competition amongst employers, identifying the right person for the job becomes a more important task than ever. Then again, it also means only the most experienced and dedicated recruitment specialists will thrive.
